PTO Fundraiser benefiting Orono Elementary and Intermediate Schools
It’s Read-a-Thon time!
What is Read-a-Thon? Read-a-thon is a great way to encourage reading as well as to raise money for our school. The money is used to fund PTO supported programs such as classroom activities, grade level and school wide enrichment, etc.
How to participate in Read-a-Thon:
This year students have the option of logging their reading minutes on the attached reading log OR students can log their minutes online at http://pledgestar.com/orono. Just click on “reading” next to your students name and enter the minutes read on a per day basis.
A soft copy of all Read A Thon documents can be found on the PTO website www.oronopto.org . You will need to have all your reading minutes logged at http://pledgestar.com/orono or turn in your pledge sheet and collected pledges/donations by October 16, 2019 to be eligible for prizes.
Set a daily reading goal. The read-a-thon is based on minutes read, not how many books are read. Minutes read by parents to their children also count toward the goal.
Secure sponsors. Use Pledgestar.com/orono to engage friends and family. It is a quick and easy system built to make secure pledges online. Emails are sent directly from the Pledgestar system and students can track their dollars raised. Sponsors can donate a flat amount, regardless of what your student reads OR they can donate a set amount per minute read. For example, $0.10 for every minute read. (240 X $0.10 = $24). We are encouraging every student to participate whether they collect pledges or not, simply by tracking reading minutes during read-a-thon. However, we do recommend that students ask family members and friends to sponsor them striving for 5-10 sponsors of $10-25 each.
Here’s how you register:
-go to http://pledgestar.com/orono
-enter your name and email address, then click Register
-follow the instructions on-screen
When you finish, the system emails pledge requests to your family and friends. You will get notified each time a pledge is made and you can track your progress online. PledgeStar will even send a thank you email on your behalf after a donation is made. Please fill out the pledge sheet or enter minutes online as well, so your child will get credit for their minutes read. You can also collect cash or checks and return in the provided envelope to your classroom, along with your pledge sheet to your teacher by October 16, 2019. Checks should be made payable to Orono PTO. Also, check with your human resources department to see if your gift can be matched and your impact doubled!
Are donations tax deductible? Read-a-Thon donations are tax deductible. The Orono PTO is a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and all donations are 100% tax-deductible. Tax receipts are attached and can be copied for students to give to their friends and family who sponsor them.
